Novum Capital initiates fund for further investments in the media sector
15 July 2022
Frankfurt-based private equity firm Novum Capital has set up a continuation vehicle for its investment in MMC Filmstudios Köln to enable further acquisitions in the film business. MMC is one of the top 3 European film and TV studio operators. The company also produces films itself – as lead- and as co-producer.
Novum Capital acquired MMC, which was founded in 1991, in mid-2019, and expanded its range of services in e-sports and post-production through the acquisition of two additional companies. Over the past three years, MMC has invested heavily in technology and customer value, which has contributed to the group's profitable growth. Business model innovations, investments in modern technologies, and the high demand for content for entertainment formats have all encouraged the company’s positive development.
New capital for further industry investments
The continuation fund created for MMC (Novum Capital Medien Fund I) offers the advantage that new investors, too, can participate in MMC's growth. The private equity division of Germany's largest investment fund company, DWS, is acting as anchor investor. The capital contributed by the investors has been allocated, among other things, for additional acquisitions that support MMC's growth. M&A boutique Stephens and secondary advisor Acanthus are supporting the process.
