Novum Capital acquires established marzipan manufacturer

06 June 2019

With retrospective effect from 1 January 2019, Novum Capital has acquired the Schluckwerder Group, a German manufacturer of marzipan, nougat and chocolate specialities based in Adendorf near Lüneburg. Erasmi & Carstens, a marzipan manufacturer based in Lübeck is also part of this group. The companies were purchased from the managing partner to date, Rolf Schluckwerder.

Customer base includes Lidl, Aldi, Penny and Co.

Schluckwerder was established in 1956 and is rich in tradition. With sales of almost 100 million euros in 2018 and more than 550 employees, it is a profitable enterprise. The company's confectionery products form part of the standard product range at nation-wide retail chains such as Lidl, Aldi, Penny, and Netto. The most successful specialities include marzipan loaves and chocolate wreaths for the Christmas and Easter season. Many Schluckwerder products are also known abroad.

Long-standing managing partner, Rolf Schluckwerder, explains: “With Novum Capital, we have found a suitable shareholder to succeed me. I am happy that this investor will continue the successful course the company has taken in recent years.” Novum Capital, which, among others, specialises in succession solutions, plans to strengthen the group's good market position and support its growth.

Strategy specialist appointed as new managing director

Jochen Rock has been appointed as the new managing director of the group parent company, which in future will operate as Schluckwerder Holding GmbH, with its operative subsidiaries, Schluckwerder GmbH and Erasmi & Carstens GmbH. Torsten Fischer will continue as managing director of Erasmi & Carstens GmbH.

Jochen Rock joined Schluckwerder at the beginning of the year. He studied Industrial Engineering and holds an MBA in Finance and Accounting. Early on in his career, he was able to gain several years of experience as a strategy consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Accenture. In the coming months, there will be an orderly transition period, during which Jochen Rock will take over Rolf Schluckwerder’s management responsibilities
