Novum Capital acquires stake in VulkaTec Riebensahm
16 July 2015
Novum Capital and Cologne-based investor BE Beteiligungen have acquired a 75 percent stake in urban and roof greening company, VulkaTec Riebensahm. The company, which is based in Kretz/Andernach, Germany, was founded in 1986. Since then, it has grown steadily to become Germany’s leading manufacturer of planting substrates for urban and roof greening solutions. In 2014, VulkaTec operated six sites in Germany with around 50 employees, generating sales of around 17 million euros.
Increased ecological awareness as a driver for company growth
Over the past 30 years, Dirk Riebensahm, the company‘s co-founder, co-owner and managing director, has played a crucial role in shaping the market for urban and roof greening. Another factor that has contributed to the success of VulkaTec as a leading solution provider with a diversified product and service portfolio is the ever-increasing ecological awareness of property owners and tenants.
Using modern processing techniques, VulkaTec harnesses the extraordinary vegetational properties of volcanic rock to create planting substrates that are indispensable for tree planting in urban environments. In addition, VulkaTec’s substrates are very light, making them ideally suited for roof greening solutions.
Both investors support plans for international expansion
VulkaTec plans to further develop its growth potential on a national and international level – with the additional help of the new majority shareholders’ capital. Investors Novum Capital and BE Beteiligungen are both experienced in the strategic development of medium-sized companies and support VulkaTec’s growth strategy. “More and more countries, including even China, are adapting Germany’s high standards for roof and urban greening,” Managing Director Dirk Riebensahm explains. “Through these two institutional investors, we will be able to increase our efforts for international growth.“
