Novum Capital brings Gerd Graf Bassewitz on board

Frankfurt-based private equity firm Novum Capital has grown its team, welcoming Gerd Bassewitz as a partner as of 1 July 2021. The 52-year-old economics graduate has more than 25 years of experience in the investment business and in advising family businesses and financial investors, in particular on corporate finance transactions. His previous sector focus was on the manufacturing industry, consumer goods, retail (in particular: system catering and e-commerce), and real estate.

New access to the German Mittelstand

With his industry know-how and extensive personal network, Gerd Bassewitz will provide the Novum Capital team with further access to the German Mittelstand. In addition, he will be intensifying and expanding contacts with relevant intermediaries such as investment banks, M&A advisors, and law firms in order to identify investment opportunities for the second Novum Capital fund. The fund has over 150 million euros in equity available for new investments.

High transaction expertise and affinity for succession solutions

Before joining Novum Capital, Gerd Bassewitz was Managing Director of a private equity fund in Frankfurt, specialising in medium-sized succession solutions. Prior to this, he advised entrepreneurs and companies on complex M&A and capital market transactions as part of his various roles at renowned companies including Bassewitz & Hochberg, Lehman Brothers, Deutsche Bank, and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. Welcoming Gerd Bassewitz to the company, Beatrice Dreyfus, Novum Capital Partner and Co-Managing Director, said:

Gerd Bassewitz studied at the universities of Würzburg, Swansea (UK), and Berlin and graduated from the Free University of Berlin with a degree in economics.
